In Hawaii an ex-employee shares her experience:
The Starbucks I was hired at back in Hawaii had a lot of oddities. Our back room was more like a hallway and the BOH desk area was right next to our high-temp Hobart. But that single corner of the room ALWAYS temped at 55*F. No matter how long that dishwasher was running. Inexplicable.
The music player was one of the older CD models but every night at exactly 10:51PM the player would skip for one full minute. Regardless of the playlist or song. EVERY NIGHT.
One day I was the only one on the floor (my barista had to use the restroom and we’re in a mall so he was out of the store). I thought he was walking back and forth getting his apron and things together, but when I saw him walking back up the stairs to the entrance of the store I was flabbergasted. Who was walking around in the back out of the corner of my eye? I saw this figure move around a LOT after that day– nearly every shift! He looked like a man around 5’10” with black hair, slight spike, wearing khakis.
I hadn’t mentioned what I saw or what I’ve described to anyone until I started working with this guy named RJ. He was on POS one day and said “Oh shit!” real loud and I asked him what’s up and he said he swore he saw someone walk past in the hallway. He swore he saw it again an hour later. I asked him if he could tell me what it looked like. He says, “Looked like one man, tall as me, black hair, kinda spiked, and he get khaki pants on.” I was IN ABSOLUTE SHOCK. He saw the EXACT same thing I had been seeing for OVER A YEAR.
As we started talking about this, a really loud shrieking noise came from the back. The Hobart started wigging out, displaying all kinds of error codes, flashing them quickly before turning itself off. I was able to turn it back on with no incident.
When we got security cameras installed there was one focused on the back desk corner (the cold area I described earlier) but when my SM tried to access the camera (we had an ASM that was stealing) the footage was completely blank. No explanation. Apparently the feed to the closed circuit was never actually operational, even though it was displayed on our screen. TOO WEIRD.
No one else besides RJ believed me. I still think there’s a dude haunting that corner, and I am not even a particularly superstitious person. It just all seems too coincidental.
