All over the world, trees are believed to be sacred. In every country and in every culture, old trees have a spiritual aspect to them.  As living parts of the earth, and having existed for hundreds of years, they carry the ghosts, the stories and the Memories of a land.

Most feeling people when they see a large old tree feel a sense of awe. Longevity, strength, and poise. Respectable qualities.

-The borough tree is home to the BAGHESWAR, a tiger godling, which is one of the most dreaded deities for the jungle tribes of  MIRZAPUR. This is a belief coming from northern India.

-In the DAKKIM region, it is thought that the spirit of pregnant women of Churel live in a tree.

-The Abor and Paham peoples of East Bengal believe that ghosts in trees kidnap children.

-In the Konkan, the medium called BHAJAT, who becomes possessed is called Jhad, or tree

-Indian lore says that, DEVADATTA worshiped a tree which suddenly broke in two 1 day. A nymph appeared and lured Devadatta inside where he found a palace full of jewels and saw the maiden daughter of the king of VIDYATPRABHA, lying on a couch.

-In 1981, more than 5000 people from around the United States flocked to see the allegedly haunted and crying pecan tree in Gilbertown, Alabama. The tree was in the front yard of a home belonging to Miss Linnie Jenkins. She reported that there was a strange crying sound coming from her pecan tree. It was claimed that the house stood on an ancient Indian burial site and therefore the noise was the sound of an unhappy Indian war spirit crying.

– All around the United States, trees that are reported to have once been hanging trees are believed to be surrounded by ghosts. For example the ghost hanging trees at Goliad.

– The trees surrounding the Texas capital carry the spirits of the convicts who built the Capitol building.

–Directional trees used by Indigenous Americans to mark pathways are today believed to be harbors of ghosts.

– In Austin Texas, the poisoning of a beloved oak tree in downtown Austin sent a man to jail for 9 years. The Treaty Oak.

– Also in Austin, the trees are no longer standing, but there used to be large a large oak grove owned by a man from Ireland, where I-35 and East 6th St converge today. That area is believed to be haunted by three men who were hung in that Oak Grove?
