Scottish Rite Theater originally was Austin’s Turners Hall, An American version of a TURNERVEREIN.
It was nicknamed Turner’s Hall. The intention of the hall was to promote athletics as well as music. Austin’s Turner Hall was handed over to the Ben Hur Masonic Lodge in the 1920s. Soon after, the Scottish Rite Lodge members made it their temple. They still own and maintain it today. They have meetings there, banquets and enjoy fellowship. The theater has intricate hand painted backdrops that are over 130 years old and still used for productions. It is predominantly a children’s theater, though other performances take place year round. Because every theater has its ghosts,so does the Scottish Rite Theater.
Austin Ghost Tours is what it was invited to lead public paranormal investigations at the Scott Scottish Rite Theater.
An actor once told Monica that whenever she performed at Scottish Rite Theater, she always asks if she can make all of her entrances and exits from stage right because she senses a little ghost or a weird presence over by the left stage where the prop room is. As the story was told one evening on stage, it was soon discovered that a recording had picked up a disembodied female voice saying “I know her”. on our recording devices.
The Masons allowed us into their Blue Room, which is their room where they perform their rituals and initiation rates. This was on a condition that nothing be moved or touched or disturbed in any way. Also no photos or videos were allowed in the room. Tour guide Lizzie was leading the team one evening, which included members of the San Marcos Paranormal Society. They were in another haunted location of this building, which is the balcony. When a spotlight sprung on and shown across on the side of the wall in the middle was a shadow in the shape of a cross with the light behind it.
After a few moments, the lights went out.
Unnerved, the facility’s manager was called right away. The light had gone off when he arrived. When everyone tried to describe what they had seen, he was very skeptical, but then someone from the San Marcos Paranormal Society said. “Could you show him please? Would you turn the light on again”?
And there it was. Everyone was a bit shaken. It never happened again.
