An unnamed longtime employee at the Austin Visitor Center in the Capitol Complex who has been a friend of AGT for over 20 years. She even calls tour guide Monica “the Ghost Whisperer.” This is a ghost story told to her by the security guard in the Greer Building, in 1986, which is home to TxDOT offices today.

Is there any chance the Highway building is built on the sight of an old elementary school? A few months ago, a little schoolboy walked by my counter, and he was back again last night. He walked by both times at about two o’clock this morning.

He is wearing a cap, knickers and carrying books tied leather strap. He just walks by real fast, turns right at the elevator and disappears down that hall.  I think he thinks he’s back at school and he’s trying to get to class. Maybe that area used to be a classroom years ago. It’s unnerving!

I don’t think he even realizes I’m here. Like I said, he’s in a hurry. And so the security guard decided to ignore the little boy and keep his job. When the little schoolboy would appear and walk quickly by, the security guard would keep his eyes on his newspaper and say, “Just get on down the hall, little schoolboy. I ain’t gonna look at you.” And so they lived (and un-lived!) happily ever after!
